Never used Codex before? This beginner tutorial shows how to start using OpenAI Codex on a Mac, step by step, after it is installed.
What you'll do:
- Create a practice folder called codex-practice on your Desktop
- Copy the folder's path in Finder with Option + Command + C
- Open Terminal (the Mac app where you type commands) and go to the folder
- Start Codex and sign in
- Type your first prompt and see Codex create a file
Commands from the video (replace the path with the one you copied; your folder path will be different):
cd /Users/yourname/Desktop/codex-practice

First prompt:
Create a text file named hello.txt with the words "My first Codex file." Tell me where you saved it.
You need a paid ChatGPT plan that includes Codex, and what your plan includes can vary, so check the official documentation before you start:
